Concern for Community
Berkeley Electric Cooperative has been receiving questions about our position regarding Santee Cooper and the V.C. Summer Nuclear project. We want to point out that one of our Seven Cooperative Principles is Concern for Community - and we take that seriously. The employees of Santee Cooper are not only our members; they are our friends, family, and neighbors.
We are concerned about the welfare of the employees of Santee Cooper as well as that of the rest of our members and the other 1.5 million member-owners served by electric cooperatives around the state. This is a complex issue which requires a thorough evaluation of all possible options. However, we also feel that it is necessary for the issue to continue moving forward by working together with Santee Cooper, and the General Assembly, so a solution can be reached which is in the best interest of all South Carolinians.
