Through a partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, we are planting 200 trees across the Lowcountry to help you reduce energy costs. The Energy Saving Trees program conserves energy and reduces household electricity bills through strategic tree planting. Once a tree matures, it can help reduce your home's energy costs by 20% each year if planted in the right place. In addition, planting trees in your yard can provide tangible community benefits like stormwater runoff reduction, improved air quality, and beautification of your neighborhood.
Simply go to our interactive website and use the tool to determine the best location in your yard to plant your tree to save energy. The online tool also estimates the annual savings that will result from the tree. To celebrate Arbor Day, Berkeley Electric Cooperative will cover half the cost of the tree. For just $25 you will get to pick a tree from one of five species chosen to grow well in our region. In exchange, you are expected to care for the trees and plant them in the location provided by the online tool. Trees will be available for pickup on April 25th from 9 am - 1 pm at our Moncks Corner and Johns Island offices.
