Berkeley Electric Cooperative NET METERING RIDER:
Effective November 15, 2017 Berkeley will charge $5 per kW AC for installed systems on the Net Metering rate rider as we have exceeded our 3,000 kW for Net Metering. The fee waiver for existing accounts, on Net Metering, will be evaluated is each year.
Members have the option to interconnect with our established standards and NOT choose to be on the Net Metering rate rider. Any surplus kWh will not be purchased by Berkeley Electric. Follow the above interconnection process and notify us that you are NOT choosing to be on Net Metering. Contact us for more details on larger systems.
- Residential/Commercial: Net metering rider allows our customers to install alternative energy sources up to their maximum monthly kW use (not to exceed 20 kW Residential, Commercial max 100 kW). Size limited to annual kWh use divided by 1,800 for kW AC size or average monthly/150. Members may reduce their monthly kWh purchased to a minimum of zero (0) kWh by producing power at home/business. Any kWh produced in excess of the home’s needs shall be banked and available for the next month.
- On June 1st of each year the bank is reduced to zero (0). Berkeley Electric does not pay for surplus kWh generated by the member and recommends proper sizing to better utilize the Solar PV power generated. The rate rider has a $5 per kW (AC) fee. Berkeley members have been successful in using up all the allocation of subsidized Net Metering sponsored by Central Electric Power Cooperative (CEPCI). The $5 per kW fee will be charged each month.
- Available on Residential RS, General Service <100 kVa transformer service and Large Power demand >100 kVa service and CP rates. Not available for Time of Day rates.
The monthly service charge is the same for all rate payers and not affected by being on the Net Metering rider.
- Required connection of the solar PV system in the member’s breaker panel, NOT in the meter base. This is a safety change by our engineering team effective with applications on or after 09-18-18.
